BELLINGHAM THEATREWORKS
2024 SEASON
The Thanksgiving Play by Larissa Fasthorse
This comic satire is currently running on Broadway and our production would be the first time any non-indigenous Whatcom County theatre has produced a play written by an indigenous author. The story revolves around four woke white individuals who attempt to create a politically correct First Thanksgiving play for Native American Heritage Month to be performed in schools.
The Mountaintop by Katori Hall
Katori Hall was the first black woman in history to win the Olivier Award for Best New Play for this fictional depiction of Martin Luther King Jr’s last night on earth set entirely in Room 306 of the Lorriane Hotel on the eve of his assassination in 1968.
To Kill a Mockingbird adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel
This Pulitzer Prize winning classic by Harper Lee tells the story of a small-town local lawyer Atticus who defends a young black man in a trial that sends violent waves through the community. Timeless and lingering, this hard-hitting work explores prejudice, compassion and the courage to do what is right.
