Bellingham TheatreWorks was founded by Mark Kuntz and Steve Lyons. The mission of Bellingham TheatreWorks is to produce stories of significance to the Pacific Northwest, with an emphasis on local actors and local playwrights.

Producing Director
Steve moved from Berkeley to Bellingham with his family in 2011. In Berkeley, Mr. Lyons founded Playwrights Cafe (www.PlayCafe.org) in 1998 - a theatre writing group in Berkeley, California. Putting his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley to good use, Steve Lyons writes plays and is a homemaker for his wife Bree and son Riley.
His plays have won multiple awards and have been produced in London, Edinburgh, New York City, Philadelphia, Boulder, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento, Bellingham, and elsewhere. His articles have appeared in newspapers and magazines nationwide. He has written one book.

Artistic Director
From 1979 to 1985, Mark Kuntz was the artistic director of Sandy Actors Theatre in Oregon. In 1986, he graduated from University of Oregon with an MA in theatre. For ten years he served on the theatre faculty of Eastern Oregon University.
He joined the theatre faculty of Western Washington University in 1996. Mark served as Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance from 1998-2005 and as Full Professor taught Directing and Playwriting. An active member of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Mark served in various capacities, including National Chair.
A well respected director in Bellingham, Mark served as the Artistic Director of The Mount Baker Repertory Theatre where he produced, directed, and designed numerous shows in both the Walton 200-seat and the main 1500-seat stages.
Mark has directed over 125 plays around the nation, including productions at the Kennedy Center, Eastern Oregon University, University of Oregon, Western Washington University, and the Mount Baker Theatre.
