HOW SWEET THE SOUND

by Eryn Elyse McVay
Directed by Mark Kuntz
JAN 4 - 12, 2019

A cursed bargain; a woman's price.

Bellingham TheatreWorks presents the world premiere of this dark, magical drama written by WWU graduate Eryn Elyse McVay.

Three girls live in a strange but orderly home, cared for by two kindly adults. Isolated from society, the girls only have each other as they begin to unravel the mysteries of their circumstances, and unknowingly hurtle toward their impending fates.

Playwright Statement:
I wanted to tell a story about women struggling for freedom: freedom of body, action, speech, and mind. Oppression is systemic; it is a cycle that we all participate in, one way or another. I only hope How Sweet The Sound can illuminate the ways we ignore or perpetuate a historically violent system, and that through accountability, we can change.

One of eight scripts nationwide selected by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for consideration for the National Playwriting Award.
