THREE CHORDS OF THE APOCALYPSE: A TRANSCRIBER’S TALE
by Joanna Parson
Directed by Aimee Todoroff

“I typed the world as it was falling apart—and somehow found the rhythm to keep going."
In the fall of 2001, Joanna Parson was working in a high-speed transcription office in lower Manhattan. While the city outside was reeling from the aftermath of 9/11, Joanna sat in front of a monitor, headphones clamped tight, typing out the raw, unedited, and often bizarrely human soundbites of a world in crisis.
A Transcriber’s Tale is a deeply personal, funny, and rhythmic exploration of that specific moment in New York City history. Through original songs and sharp storytelling, Joanna captures the secondhand trauma, the absurdity of "business as usual," and the strange comfort found in the voices of strangers.
It’s a love letter to a transformed city and a tribute to the ways we find humor in the heaviest of times.
A Transcriber’s Tale is written and performed by Joanna Parson and directed by Aimee Todoroff. Musical direction and additional arrangements by Drew Wutke.
“A gifted storyteller, holding her guitar not as a shield but rather an offering. A gift. It’s a gorgeous, gorgeous show. A delight. And Joanna Parson is absolutely brilliant."

“This show made me laugh and think… and also made me ache with memories of 911 and how we all processed it. But it wasn’t only about 911, it was a thoroughly fresh, honest, and specific charting of a young artist’s life in NYC that I think will be relatable to people of all ages."
